SPPU proposes science congress; also in plan: NEP, building hostels | Pune News
2 min readThe Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has proposed a state-level Science Congress on the lines of the prestigious Indian Science Congress. Interacting with the media in Pune, SPPU Vice Chancellor Suresh Gosavi said, “We are in talks with various experts from the scientific community, industry, and other academicians,” he said.
The Indian Science Congress is a one-of-its-kind event that brings together scientists and researchers from various institutions and laboratories. At the university, a major initiative has been proposed for a state-level Science Congress and an announcement is likely in November this year.

At a ‘Meet the Press’ event organized by the Pune Union of Working Journalists, Gosavi also announced some important measures like plans to set up a genome sequencing centre, and implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in all affiliated colleges from next year.
“The NEP 2020, which is being implemented in all autonomous colleges this year, will be implemented by all SPPU-affiliated colleges from the next academic session. In this regard, the syllabi for undergraduate and postgraduate courses will be prepared by September 30,” he said.
SPPU VC said safe hostels for students coming from other places is a necessity and there are plans to construct hostels to accommodate 1,000 male and 1,000 female students. The announcement comes amid students’ rising concerns over the hostel and food arrangements on campus.
