ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The founder of a a unique nationwide project came to Rochester Tuesday to spread the message of “solutions over suspensions.”
It’s a storytelling project called the Mass Story Lab. It includes the stories of people who are directly impacted by justice issues.
Organizers joined parents and young people at the Montgomery Neighborhood Center. They focused on ways to end the school to prison pipeline — a phrase to describe the growing problem of students who repeatedly get into trouble at school, are expelled and end up behind bars.
The Solutions Not Suspensions bill is an effort to use alternative means to discipline students, especially those in elementary school. The Children’s Agenda is among the organizations advocating for a limit to school suspensions
