“Being a woman commentator has a lot of possibilities. It’s a rare door; don’t hesitate to knock on it,” one of the characters tells Fathima (Kalyani Priyadarshan), pretty much encapsulating the entire atmosphere and story of the movie.
Written and directed by Manu C Kumar, Sesham Mike-il Fathima (Up next on mic, Fathima) narrates the tale of a young Muslim woman from Malabar aspiring to become a football commentator, despite facing opposition from her family and others.
Ahead of the film’s release on November 17, the makers released its official trailer on Monday, offering a sneak peek into Fathima’s world. The 156-second promo begins by showing a football ground, where a character (Navas Vallikkunnu) discusses with someone named Asif (Aneesh G Menon) the need for a good commentator for upcoming matches. In the meantime, the former suggests persuading Fathima to take on the role.
Although initially sceptical, citing that she “is not ace Malayalam sports commentator Shaiju Damodaran”, Fathima eventually agrees. Once she embraces the role, she becomes deeply committed to it, deciding to pursue it as a career. The remainder of the film unfolds the various obstacles she must overcome to achieve her goal.
