Marathi Language University to start classes from next academic year | Education News
2 min readMaharashtra’s Marathi Language University will start operations from the 2024-25 academic year. The university will function under the Higher and Technical Education Department of Maharashtra and will be in Ridhapur village of Amravati district.
As per the information shared by the office of the Higher and Technical Education Department of Maharashtra, the idea behind setting up this university is to preserve the state’s official language and also to promote it.

“However, it was important that this does not remain a language centre. but offers courses which can lead to employment and thus, a committee of experts was formed to create an industry-oriented curriculum,” an official statement from the department added.
A six-member committee of experts was formed by the state to create a structure of the university, its curriculum and other details such as whether this will be a single institution offering courses or can also be made an affiliating body. The committee has submitted its final recommendations now and the university is expected to start functioning in the upcoming academic year. The six-member committee was headed by Sadanand More, renowned litterateur and chairman of Maharashtra Rajya Sahitya and Sanskriti Mandal.
Sadanand More was also part of the advisory committee for the Marathi Language Policy 2023, which recommended the establishment of the Marathi Language University in Maharashtra.
