The Chittorgarh police in Rajasthan have arrested a Mewar University student from Jammu and Kashmir after he allegedly made an objectionable post on social media.

Mewar University Director Harish Gurnani said B Pharmacy student Sohrab Qayoom has been expelled from the university and that “all the possible punishments have been initiated” against him.

According to Gangrar police station SHO Jayesh Patidar, Qayoom, 21, had posted some objectionable comments as an Instagram story.

An FIR was lodged based on a complaint filed by a local resident on January 25 under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc) and 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).
