In the last nine years, the central government started nine cancer hospitals and is working on 10 such new hospitals with a vision that the treatment of such serious illness should not be a challenge for any patient or patient’s family, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday. He made the remarks while addressing an event of the Khodaldham Trust to lay the foundation stone of its cancer hospital and research centre in Rajkot district.

The function was organised by Khodaldham Trust to mark its seventh anniversary at Rajkot’s Kagvad. The Khodaldham Trust is headed by Naresh Patel, a tall patidar leader. The event was also attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

Addressing the event via video conferencing, PM Modi appreciated the service work being undertaken by the Kholdaldham Trust as he underlined that its cancer hospital and research centre will be yet another example of its “spirit to serve”. He also said that the hospital and research centre at Amreli village of Rajkot district will serve people of a big chunk of the Saurashtra region.

“Treatment of a serious illness like cancer becomes a big challenge for any person or family. It has been an attempt by the government that the treatment of cancer does not bring difficulties for any patient. With this thinking, in the last nine years, nearly 30 new cancer hospitals have been started. And work is in progress on 10 new cancer hospitals,” the PM said.

“For the treatment of cancer, it is very important that it gets diagnosed at the right time. Many times, the people of villages come to know about cancer when it is too late…And to preempt such a situation, the central government has got built more than 1.5 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. At these Ayushman Arogya Mandir, emphasis is being laid on detecting serious illnesses, including cancer, in the beginning. When cancer is detected early, it helps doctors also a lot.”

Festive offer

On the occasion, PM Modi asked the people to practice and spread awareness of nine principles: water conservation, digital dealings, cleanliness, promoting local products, giving priority to national products instead of international ones, using millets, maintaining good fitness, and saying no to drug addiction. He also yet again urged people to organise weddings in India to help the local economy.

Chief Minister at the event referred to the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya on Monday, and said PM Modi has been an ardent advocate of Devbhakti and Deshbhakti.
