Even as a yellow alert warning of heavy rainfall is predicted in several parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, the capital city is all set for the grand Ganesh Shobha Yatra and immersion of thousands of idols in water bodies across Greater Hyderabad. Roads leading to Hussainsagar Lake and surroundings are closed for vehicular traffic as lakhs of devotees are expected to congregate in the central part of the city.

Over 40,000 idols are expected to be immersed in various water bodies across the city.

Organisers of Ganesh pandals have been asked to start the procession of the idol early so as to cross Charminar by noon.

Police commissioner CV Anand appealed to people to stay indoors Thursday. “It’ll be my request to everyone to stay indoors and you can always watch the proceedings of the immersion live on all Telugu channels. The roads will be crowded and overflowing with humanity. All processions are also requested to do the immersion in a peaceful manner,” he said in a post on X.

The Telangana High Court has issued a stern direction to the city police to ensure that no idols made of Plaster of Paris (POP) are immersed in any of the natural water bodies. However, the order has not gone down well with several Ganesh pandal organisers.
