3 min readEven as a yellow alert warning of heavy rainfall is predicted in several parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, the capital city is all set for the grand Ganesh Shobha Yatra and immersion of thousands of idols in water bodies across Greater Hyderabad. Roads leading to Hussainsagar Lake and surroundings are closed for vehicular traffic as lakhs of devotees are expected to congregate in the central part of the city.
Over 40,000 idols are expected to be immersed in various water bodies across the city.
Organisers of Ganesh pandals have been asked to start the procession of the idol early so as to cross Charminar by noon.
Police commissioner CV Anand appealed to people to stay indoors Thursday. “It’ll be my request to everyone to stay indoors and you can always watch the proceedings of the immersion live on all Telugu channels. The roads will be crowded and overflowing with humanity. All processions are also requested to do the immersion in a peaceful manner,” he said in a post on X.
Today is the Ganesh Shobha Yatra and immersions of idols will take place on a big scale . The route is as shown below in the map and no traffic will be permitted to go across . Government has declared a holiday .

The Telangana High Court has issued a stern direction to the city police to ensure that no idols made of Plaster of Paris (POP) are immersed in any of the natural water bodies. However, the order has not gone down well with several Ganesh pandal organisers.

‘74 water bodies created for immersion of idols’
Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav who inspected the arrangements Wednesday said 74 water bodies are created for the immersion of idols. Besides, 47 health camps and 15 hospitals are kept on standby for emergency medical services, the minister said. As many as 34 lakh drinking water packets are kept ready for devotees at 122 stalls. A total of 369 cranes, including 244 mobile cranes, have been arranged for easy immersion of bigger idols and 12 km of roads have been barricaded, he added.

Traffic diversions in place
In view of the Ganesh Shobha Yatra, roads are diverted at PVNR Marg, upper Tank Bund, Chapel Road, Gun Foundry, Liberty junction, BRK Bhavan junction, Khairatabad junction, Kavadiguda junction, RTC crossroads, Katta Maisamma temple, MJ bridge, Puranapul, Darussalam, Ajantha gate near Exhibition Grounds, Shivaji bridge, Afzalgunj, Putlibowli crossroads, Jhambagh crossroads, Motigalli, Murgichowk, Darul Shifa crossroads, Nayapul, Madina crossroads, Lakkad kote, Moghalpura, Shamsheergunj, and Enginebowli, en route the 19-km stretch between Balapur and Hussainsagar lake.

Meanwhile, given the traffic restrictions and the huge congregation of devotees near the central part of the city, the Hyderabad Metro Rail has decided to operate its services till 1 am Friday.
