Flight cancellations in Pune continue, irate passengers create ruckus at airport | Pune News

2 min read

Flight cancellations at the Pune airport continued on Tuesday with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials saying that seven arrivals and five departures were cancelled till 10 am. Even as several affected passengers took to social media to complain, officials said that more cancellations may occur due to the cascading effect that the disturbance in air operations in north India is having on Indian civil aviation due to dense fog.

On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the ‘dense to very dense fog conditions’ are likely to continue over north India over the next four-five days.

Delhi Airport administration has clarified that aircraft that are not CAT III compliant (a navigation system that allows landing of aircraft during poor visibility conditions) are getting affected due to the fog situation. It advised the passengers to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.

At Pune airport, several passengers who were affected by the cancellations and delays took to social media over the lack of transparency maintained by the airlines and issues pertaining to refunds.

Flyer Bhatu Borase posted on social media and complained: “frustrated with Indigo crew’s lack of transparency and refusal to provide proper explanations or refunds at Pune Airport.” He shared a video with his post that showed irate flyers arguing with the ground staff.

Festive offer

YouTuber Vikas Fhatak aka ‘Hindustani Bhau’ posted on social media site ‘X’ to complain that his Air India flight from Mumbai to Pune was cancelled on Tuesday morning without giving him any advance intimation. “I am travelling on AI841 business class today. After reaching airport, I came to know the flight is cancelled which is unacceptable I have urgent meeting to be attend in Pune more than 500 people waiting for me,” he wrote.

Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked the airlines to cancel flights “sufficiently in advance’ if they are expected to be delayed by more than three hours.
